Paul McCartney kicked off his 2019 “Freshen Up” tour dates last night (March 20) in Santiago, Chile. Despite the name of the tour, barring a few exceptions, McCartney's show is relatively unchanged from his 2018 gigs. The most notable additions was the world premiere of the recent Egypt Station track “Back To Brazil” and the return of the 2007 Memory Almost Full crowd favorite, “Dance Tonight.”

Fans of the new album were excited by Tuesday's soundcheck, which featured three additional Egypt Station tracks — “I Don't Know,” “Happy With You” and “Confidante,” along with McCartney's early-solo classic “Every Night” — none of which made it to the proper show.

Despite being a seasoned live performer for over 60 years — Paul McCartney spoke about how his nerves manifest themselves these days: “It's normally the first thing in the morning when you wake up. You think, 'What is it today? What — ah, it's a show. It's a big show tonight' And really that's the time that I get a little bit nervous. I maybe wake up a little earlier than I would've. 'Cause with the Beatles I used to get quite nervous, especially if they were big shows.”

18 years after his initial sessions with Paul McCartney, lead guitarist Rusty Anderson says he's still pinching himself over his outstanding luck at landing such a coveted gig: “Everything's just evolved a lot over the last, I don't know, how long have I been playing with Paul? It's certainly a huge part of my life and playing these gigantic concerts and everything is a big perspective. Just, I really enjoy making music and I feel very blessed being able to do it with great people like Paul.”
